How has your day been?
Before we get started, this question needs to be asked: What was The Economist thinking?!
"[This crypto]'s price went up by XX,XXX% in 100 Days!" is definitely NOT how one can inspire confidence (especially in a cryptocurrency) through a newspaper tailored mainly to knowledgeable mainstream readers who are already acquainted with current affairs, international business, politics and technology.
(Editor: The game plan here is most definitely to use The Economist as a stepping stone to claim "endorsement" by the news magazine. It may not be done by Richard Heart and co. themselves, but someone will definitely do it. As always, DYOR) Aside from that, today we're talking about good news from Russia, paying hotels with crypto, and Monero's plan to get listed on exchanges.

| Cryptocurrency is now Officially Legal in Russia (as savings and investments)Russia has declared cryptocurrency legal after president Vladimir Putin signed the bill recognizing cryptocurrencies as a type of property. The bill defines cryptocurrency as a means of savings and investments but not as a means of payment.
The bill also allows cryptoexchanges to legally buy, sell and facilitate asset exchange after registering with the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. (Editor: This is a certainly a pleasant surprise! In a previous edition we mentioned that the bill was awaiting approval and is supposed to come into force by early 2021.)

| Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) refers to computer equipment which are specialized for a specific use, rather than general use.
An example of ASIC would be Bitcoin mining machines that are made to solve the SHA-256 algorithm repeatedly and in orders of magnitude quicker than general use hardwares (eg. graphic cards).
Initially developed only for the Bitcoin algorithm, the development, sale and usage of ASIC quickly became a lucrative industry as it expanded to cover many other cryptocurrencies.
It is worth noting that ASICs are not used only in the crypto scene - appliances that are made to do specific functions can also be equipped with ASIC chips for efficiency purposes. Learn about other Crypto terms here | | | |
