As Seen on the FAN Token Blog As we highlight trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyze how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League, this week's FAN Take takes a look the myriad of options available beyond simple surnames for the backs of player jerseys, as we give some props to Major League Baseball's Players Weekend. In addition, we took a look at the trending story of knowing when the time is right to retire, following Eric Decker and Manu Ginobili's retirements from the NFL and NBA respectively. What's New in the FCFL with Patrick Dees Co-Founder and Chief Gaming Officer Patrick Dees shares a personal message to you all and his thoughts on the tragedy in Jacksonville, FL over the weekend. Additionally, he recaps the conversations the team has had with IMG, helping us rethink football from the ground up. And also on our Twitch channel: In our latest FAN Call Friday, The Commish, Ray Austin, and our Head of Football Experience, Jason Chilton, debate alternatives to punts. Notable News In case you have been living under a rock for the last 36 hours, Odell Beckham Jr. snagged himself a $95M contract extension. The deal lasts through 2023 and has a total of $65M in guarantees. Now, we aren't taking credit for the Giants making this decision, but you may remember in our blog post earlier in the month, we called it. When questioning what you, the fans, would do if you were part of the Giants front office, it was a clear answer of "pay the man!" Electronic Arts and FIFA achieved a new record audience for the FIFA eWorld Cupβ’ 2018 Grand Final, generating 29M+ views during the three-day event. After an initial pool of 20M people from 60+ countries dwindled down to 32 players at the Grand Final in London, Mosaad 'Msdossary' Aldossary from Saudi Arabia walked away world champion, with a $250,000 prize. The global online audience represents a 400 per cent increase in digital viewership over the 2017 FIFA Interactive World Cup Final and double the digital viewership of the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series Playoffs held in Amsterdam. The real take away here is that people are tuning in to esports more than ever before, and increasing the consumption through streaming, proving once again that traditional sports may have run their course. Wilson is putting power in the hands of the fans! Together with Golf Channel, Wilson is airing a competition for 14 aspiring golf equipment designers to create a new driver concept. The first episode airs October 2 at 9pm, with the finale airing on November 13. We can't wait to see which driver is selected to hit retail stores world wide, and its designer winning a massive $250,000 prize! As you may have seen from our Twitter feed, we are loving the new Fansville marketing campaign from Dr. Pepper. The campaign is a parody take on the emotional rollercoaster of college football fandom. If you think some of the faces look familiar, its because the episodic-like campaign stars Brian Bosworth, Eddie George and Les Miles. The campaign will run through the 2018-19 season. While we think Dr. Pepper is going to have an excellent run with Fansville, we can all agree that the FCFL is the REAL Fansville! San Francisco 49ers CB Richard Sherman, someone you may have seen recently on the cover of Sports Illustrated, is taking his commitment to the fans to a new level by launching a new fantasy site. He announced last week that the site, Daily Number, will launch paid contests in 23 states. So how does Daily Number differ from other fantasy sites? Entrants will create seven-player rosters that attempt to "eclipse a predetermined total amount of fantasy points, set by the site and known as the 'daily number.'" We've seen a lot of NFL stars endorse fantasy sites, but Sherman may be the first to have a founding stake in one. We love to see athletes do something outside their box (like Ray Austin co-founding the FCFL) and we know we'll be checking it out! This weekend, CBS Sports will be airing a fantasy football telethon to aid all you fantasy footballers! The Fantasy Football Today Telethon will deliver real-time draft advice for fantasy owners on Monday, September 3rd - one of the busiest draft days of the year. The action starts at 3:00 PM ET and can be found on CBS Sports HQ, as well as CBS Sports' Facebook and Twitter channels. Fantasy experts including Jamey Eisenberg, Dave Richard, Pete Prisco, Will Brinson, Jason La Canfora, Danny Kanell, Bryant McFadden, Todd Fuhrman, Nick Kostos, and Chris Hassel will be on hand to answer draft day questions live. If that isn't enough to get you to tune in, former players like James Jones and Mike Sims-Walker will be providing their input as well. Major League Soccer increased their fan engagement opportunities this week thanks to Twitter and Snapchat. MLS unveiled the Tweet Cam with Twitter for Heineken Rivalry Week at Stub Hub Center, which allowed users to request a live shot of the action by tweeting the hashtag #LALookIn. The Twitter-powered camera then snapped a photo of what was happening in the game, tweeting it back to the user from the MLS account. On top of that, over the weekend users were able to use MLS-specific Snapchat Stickers to add some flair to their snaps. In addition to letting fans just be fans, MLS has empowered them to become the photographers of the weekend. People frequently ask us: do you really want fan input on how to run the league? Our answer is an unequivocal: YES! The main channel for such communication has been and will continue to be our Telegram channel, where you can chat directly with all of our team members and co-founders at nearly any hour of the day.
