FCFL Wins Next Gen Arena On Monday evening, April 30th, in the Big Apple, the Fan Controlled Football League won the highly regarded Next Gen Arena presented by TPG Sports Group. TPG received over 400 applicants and selected 30 to participate in Next Gen Arena and 5 for Tuesday evening's Sports Tank. By winning Next Gen Arena (one of two selected by the judging panel from among the 30 participants), FCFL Co-Founders Ray Austin and Patrick Dees were then invited to pitch in front of a packed house of 600 sports industry movers and shakers at Sports Tank as well. Other companies who pitched included: HypSports, Muxy, Sana, Fresh8 Gaming, HealthTechApps, and FlipTix. The Hits Keep Coming This week, media from across the pond seemed especially enamored with Fan Controlled Football, including a great piece by Calvin Ayre in the UK and another one on Sports Buzz Business from France – get your translator app going for that one! And back here in the USA, Blockchain News covered our relationship with New Alchemy, and SportTechie joined the party with an FCFL feature. They say no one walks in LA, but Sohrob did, on over to his headline presentation at "The Future of Sports". And why did we indicate it was the calm before the storm, well, this week, our Co-Founders are spanning the globe, as Sohrob heads to Singapore for the World Digital Assets Summit; Patrick, Jen and Ray head to the East Coast where hit New York (Sports Tank) and Boston (Starting Blocks: Using Blockchain in Sports, Presented by the Sports Innovation Lab); and Grant hits the Crypto Invest Summit in LA and is participating on a panel at 3Q Digital in Mountain View. If you are in the Boston area, this is your chance to meet several members of the team! Definitely sign up to join us this Thursday for Starting Blocks where you will hear directly from Patrick and Ray about everything FCFL, FAN Token, Sports, and Blockchain! And then there's next week, when Grant and Patrick head to the Cayman Islands!?!? Nope, they will not be sipping cocktails on the beach. Instead, they will be participating in the Sweet Sixteen at the World Tokenomic Forum. FAN Token was one of sixteen contestants chosen from more than 130 applicants to take part in a bracket-style showdown to determine the top token offering at the Forum: the Sandcastle Sweet Sixteen Challenge! Meantime, Sohrob will take his turn in New York, presenting at the Proskauer | UBS 3rd Annual TMT Summit. As Seen on the FAN Token Blog This week, FCFL Head of Football Experience, Jason Chilton, has Hoop Dreams! That's right, he shares his thoughts on how a Fan-Controlled Basketball League might work. Infographic: Pro Sports Get Smaller and Faster Are the major leagues and major international sporting events missing the boat? As sports leagues worldwide need to win over a new generation of fans who are used to instant information and dividing their attention between two (or more) screens, upstart leagues and events are the ones distilling the essence of their sports into smaller, faster and easier-to-digest packages. These "distilled sports" are often packed to the brim with data and fan engagement components alongside the fast-paced action. It's an ethos we're excited about bringing to professional football with the FCFL! Notable News The Las Vegas Golden Knights launched their own channel on Twitch. The club will offer fans regular exclusive content, led by Shane's House, hosted by commentator and former NHL player Shane Hnidy as he interacts with guests that include players, celebrities, management and Golden Knights fans as they play video games. Viewers will be able to chat directly with Hnidy and his guests while watching live. The data and analytics revolution in pro sports marches on, and not even the ball is left out of the action. Wilson worked with USC quarterback Sam Darnold to refine their sensor-equipped Wilson X Football. The ball measures speed, spin, launch location and angle to help analyze and improve quarterbacks' throwing mechanics, and the data will also integrate with player tracking and other biometric data to give fans even deeper insights in games. Some of the world's most successful eSports leagues have taken plenty of cues from the "big leagues" of traditional sports, including franchise models to help thwart competition. and the next step in their evolution is the cultivation of their own "minor leagues" to evaluate and groom up-and-coming talent. Riot Games (League of Legends) has created a program called Scouting Grounds to give amateur eSports competitors a place to show their stuff, and the Overwatch League has answered with Open tournaments that allow players and teams to earn a shot at the big time. Our answer is an unequivocal: YES!
